Powerful than the (in my opinion) a bit too laidback studio album. Then David GilmourĪnnounces that the band will play the entire new solo album On An Island, I have to say that on stage it sounds more dynamic and Parry and the multi-instrumentalist Jon Carin and supported by a wonderful and often awesome lightshow. When I read that David Gilmour had released a 2-DVD set from this concert, I decided to purchase it very quickly.ĭVD-1: It starts with three DSOTM tracks, the crowd is euphoric and we can enjoy very strong renditions of Speak To Me,īreath and Time/Breathe Reprise, played by a tight and inspired band with many outstanding musicians like Phil Manzanera, Dick Last week I watched an one hour BBC concert of this happening, I was pleasantly surprised by the tracklist that includes both theĮntire new solo album On An Island as lots of classic Pink Floyd tracks and I was blown away by the lightshow, goose bumps! The third is a documentary on the making of the On An Island album. The seconds is a short film from America's West Coast some of the backstage footage was shot by Richard Wright. Find the Cost of Freedom (with David Crosby and Graham Nash) Shine on You Crazy Diamond (with David Crosby and Graham Nash)Ģ1. Then I Close My Eyes (with Robert Wyatt)ġ5. The Blue (with David Crosby and Graham Nash)ġ0. On an Island (with David Crosby and Graham Nash)ħ. You don't get this quality of performance or DVD often.6. Overall, what is not to like about this package and the extras. The particular songs he is involved with "Emily" fits his late 60's style but Comfortably Numb is performed as well as he can do with his vocal range.in any case it is all about the guitar solo and Gilmore delivers it as only he can. The version here is a good a performance as there is.I know some reviews have been a bit critical of Davis Bowie, I find this a bit harsh. I have seen a few "Tributes" play it and it always captivates. For me Echoes is the keynote to this DVD. Rick Wright being on Keys on some of his last performances was just great to see. The Guests really enjoyed this GIG and inspite the absence of Female backing vocals (a staple with Floyd) Floyd's and Gimore's catalogue is given at Tour-de-Force here. Different from PULSE and more intimate even at The Albert Hall.
This is the ultimate Dave Gilmore (Pink Floyd) performance. I know it's only my opinion, and I realise a lot of people love Remember the night, but I do suggest any who loves Dave Gilmour should also get the David Gilmour in Concert 2002 DVD, you won't be disappointed Im sure. Yes, definitely the 2002 DVD wins hands down, I must have played it dozens of times, the Blue-ray just once.
Just compare the two versions of Dominoes and his versions of Dimming of the day and Je crois entendre encore are absolutely lovely. Ive got to say the picture quality and in fact the quality of the music in my opinion are so much better on the 2002 DVD. Musically very good, with very good sound quality and song content.Īfter watching this I revisited a DVD of David Gilmour in Concert 2002 which I have always loved.
I think the consensus is that the picture quality for a blue-ray disc is poor and indeed it is, very poor! I have a quality tv and the picture quality of this concert is pretty dire. I think I read every review of this Blue-ray before buying so in a way I knew exactly what I was getting before I bought it.
